Student Support Services/Physical Therapist Assistant
Description
The physical therapist is responsible for using the best evidence-based practices to evaluate students to determine their need for physical therapy services. They are responsible for making data-driven decisions to develop and deliver IEP-driven therapy services, attending all required IEP meetings, and mobility device evaluations. They are also responsible for training staff on various lifting methods as well as use of physical therapy equipment, and all other duties as assigned.
Duties
- Assess and evaluate students using appropriate school evaluations
- Interpret diagnostic tests materials and complete paperwork requirements for annual reviews and three-year re-evaluations
- Research new gross motor evaluations that could be relevant for the student population at FAEC Maintain an updated equipment list
- Schedule and implement student physical therapy services, incorporating goals and objectives, as stated in the IEP
- Assist, instruct, and train additional staff in proper positioning of students within the classroom, gym, changing/toileting areas, and equipment.
- Maintain daily charting of therapy sessions and accurate data collection toward IEP goals.
- Engage in collaborative communication with parents and district representatives to discuss student progress and student needs
- Monitor students in several settings documenting and analyzing student progress and adjusting treatment plans as needed
- Creates and adapts learning materials to students’ needs
- Collaborates with the student’s IEP team to develop and implement the student’s IEP
- Uses assessment/baseline data and progress monitoring data to develop vigorously appropriate IEPs goals as needed
- Participates in all required meetings and completes all required sections of the IEP process
- Implement FA/BIP, as required, during therapy sessions to ensure services are conducted with as little behavioral interruptions as possible
- Support the utilization of specialized technology and adapted equipment to allow students to meaningfully participate within their environment, access their education, and to foster independence
- Implements individual behavior plans according to approved procedures, as needed to implement occupational therapy services
- Work across grade levels to provide appropriate occupational therapy services with no level underserved
- Evaluate, prepare, and submit monthly reports as required by the state of Illinois, districts, administration, and families (e.g., attendance, Medicaid/Insurance billing).
- Maintain and manage accurate and up-to-date schedules, caseload, and workload
- Prepare weekly lessons that fulfill the requirements of the student's IEP
- Consult & collaborate with IEP team members to create functional goals, ensuring they are appropriate and can be carried over to other environments within the school setting.
- Collaborate with supervising staff and ensure student needs are met,
- Create and maintain and reports that are prepared, in advance, for upcoming meetings
- Maintain an organized & clean therapy/ gym area.
Hours:
Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 2:30 pm
Includes a 6-week extended school year (Optional)
Education, Licenses & Certifications:
Degree or certification from an approved CAPTE physical therapy program
Current IL State License in Physical Therapy
Previous experience in a special education setting preferred
