School Admission Process

Receipt of Inquiry

An Inquiry is made via our website or direct contact with the school, phone, or email.

Inquiry Followup

The FAEC team completes an inquiry follow-up within 1-2 business days.

Referral and Initial Contact:

  • The student's home school IEP team determines that a therapeutic day school is the most appropriate placement.
  • The school district initiates the referral by sending an information packet to the therapeutic day school.

Document Review

Documents will be reviewed to determine if placement at FAEC is appropriate.

School Visit and Assessment

  • Tour & Meeting: School schedules a visit for parents and student to explore the facility and meet administrators.
  • Home/School Observation: School may visit the student's home or current school to observe them in their natural environment.
  • Evaluations: School may conduct its own assessments or review independent evaluations to understand the student's needs.

Eligibility Determination and Placement

  • The IEP team, including parents and school representatives, determines the student’s eligibility for special education and related services.
  • If eligible and the school is a good fit, the IEP team develops an IEP outlining the student's specific needs and services.
  • The district, parents, and school agree on a start date and transportation arrangements.

Intake Meeting and Transition

  • An intake meeting is held for parents and the student to meet the classroom team staff.
  • The meeting allows discussion of concerns leading to the placement and helps develop an initial transition plan.

Preschool Screening

Preschool screening is offered for three-to-five-year-old children. This screening is used to identify children who may either be at-risk or in need of special services. Each child is assessed in the following areas:
